Why should I join the Allen Color Guard program?
Why should I join the Allen Color Guard program?

As a co-curricular activity, Color Guard encompasses the many benefits that an extra curricular activity can have:

  • Explores Interests
  • Creates Broader Perspectives
  • Social Opportunities
  • Essential Life Skills
  • Additions to Resume's
  • Many more!

Performing with the Color Guard requires hard work and dedication. Practicing and performing with the guard teaches students the valuable life skills of time management, focused effort / goal setting, determined and persistent work toward a common goal, and high-level team work. But most of all, it's fun!

Members of the Allen Color Guard form strong friendships. They become part of a tightly-knit group who look out for one another throughout their time in high school. They also develop a passion for performing which drives their work ethic to continually push them to be better.

In the spring semester, 'Audition Clinics' are held prior to a formal audition to allow interested members a chance to "try it out" and for returning members to excel & expand their skills, and to show-off their improvement throughout the process. Remember, many members of the color guard have had little or no dance experience before they came to one of our camps or clinics. These activities are truly designed to be an introduction to the Color Guard experience.

For more information on Mini Camps, Audition Clinics, or Audition dates, please pay attention to the website or contact us with any additional questions.

When does the Color Guard rehearse?
When does the Color Guard rehearse?

During the summer, there is "Guard Camp" where the color guard rehearses as an individual unit. Summer Band through the marching season, the color guard rehearses all hours that the band rehearses.

During our Winter Guard season, each competing guard will have their own rehearsal schedule determined and sent out by the director. This schedule is usually sent out end of September / beginning of October, with rehearsals typically starting after Thanksgiving break continuing through April.

What is Color Guard?
What is Color Guard?

Color guard is the an artistic sport that combines dance, choreography, and the spinning of flags, sabers, rifles, and other equipment. Performers execute synchronized routines alongside a marching band in the Fall semester, or independently in their spring season of "Winter Guard" .

Their visually striking performances feature dynamic movements, tosses, and catches as they spin and manipulate their equipment with flair and athleticism. Though originally an auxiliary unit supporting military ceremonies, color guard has evolved into a competitive activity with its own competitions and complex routines demanding strength, coordination, and showmanship.

Blending dance, gymnastics, and traditional military drill into an artistic display of coordination and finesse, color guard transforms equipment work into an elegant and entertaining spectacle.
